ALLERGIES--HAY FEVER
Hay Fever
Hay fever is an allergic disease with or without slight
fever, runny nose, sneezing followed by stuffiness and dry throat feeling. It
happens in time for arrival of spring when flowers and grass shed pollen abd dander.
So, early February is usually the time for hay fever. With
winter receding and spring beginning we are in rotten moods because we were
stuck up in homes during harsh winters or feeling lethargic because of the
chill, cozying up in blankies. Out comes the budding flowers and infest our houses
with dander and pollen, leaving us sore and stuffy. In expectation of relief we
venture outdoors and our symptoms worsen. Therefore, ideally, we should rest in our houses
with the AC on to filter out any allergen if we are suffering from hay fever
and not to forget, take an anti-allergen medicine.
Psychological connection is hard to establish but, like I
mentioned earlier, it is our desire to live life fully in competition with the
nature blossoming and shedding its beauty that results in them winning the
battle sometimes making us sick. We need to respect nature’s need for privacy
in their reproductive phase. You think I
am joking? Well, you are most welcome to call me a clown but my instionct says—“STAY
INDOORS” if you have hay fever, keep windows closed, put on ACs, and put your
winter blankies and rugs away; if you have a garden, make sure it is watered.
People with history of asthma take preventive medication.
Yeah, even food has to be screened for its immunity boosting
properties. Fruits are fine, salty food is great but sweets and chocolates especially
with nuts are a no-no. High sugar levels in blood is an attraction for pollen
to enter your system. Drink salty, peppery soups and yes, Grandma was always
right about that hot and sour chicken soup.
Salt and Pepper are necessary ingredients for a cold, dry
day when you have stuffy noses that cant smell a thing. Soupy Noodles , the ‘ pee ke khao n kha ke peeyo’
types can help with additional salt n pepper too, provided you don’t overdo it.
Last but not least, avoid cold stuff straight from the
fridge. Eat warm things and keep yourself clean and fresh. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!!! It will wash down
those allergens. Taking steam helps in liquefying the stuffy nose but make sure
to blow it all into tissues. If you keep it in they stay sticky and troublesome
still.
So HEY, FEVER, WHO is SCARED OF YOU? When the hay is cut, we
are made to cry over the loss of green fields. When flowers bloom and are ready
for pollinating give them some privacy please…STAY INDOORS OR IN AC CUBICLES, IF
YOU CAN AFFORD IT.
