The Schizoid Phenomenon
In olden days, famous schizophrenics were Gods and God’s
messengers, or God’s most sincere followers.
Reading the book of genesis might lead you to believe that
God is an alien. He lives somewhere far out in space, in a place called heaven .
Sitting there, he one day devised a plan to create a new world. So, poof! Earth
was created and with it came its inhabitants, of which man was the most
favoured(indigenous) creation. Writers and philosophers who had a direct link
to God consciousness, could believe themselves as God’s messengers who wrote
the story of genesis and made each one of the ancient men and women believers
in the concept of an Alien God who played the puppeteer to every living thing
and non-living thing in the world .
So Adam and Eve’s story was penned down in simple words and shows
how the puppeteer set down the rules and regulations for us to follow. While
the real puppeteer is only a concept, the story writer became his messenger and
the de facto puppeteer who steered people’s consciousness to believe in the
concept of God.
As we further read on, we meet many characters in the story
who either acted in accordance to God consciousness or actually became Gods.
Let us consider here, the signs and symptoms of Schizophrenia:
Delusions—unbelievable ideas
Illusions—visual tricks
Hallucinations—auditory and visual
Of these symptoms, most seem to be a part of what someone
like Noah may have had before he set sail sail on his ship. Schizophrenics are
unnaturally intelligent and they can predict future based on their strength of
instinctual relationship with the world around us. Noah could foresee the
coming of the great floods and he set out on a rescue mission. In simple layman
terms it would mean he had prophetic vision. In medical terms it might mean he
was schizophrenic—having a visual or auditory hallucination of having
communicated with God and acting out on the delusions he had had which actually
proved correct because there did happen a great flood as he had predicted. Therefore,
he found mention in the book of genesis as the rescuer of humans and many other
species.
All the people in the Bible or book of genesis who were said
to have had heard God’s voice or seen him as a light and then went forward and
followed those commands can be bracketed together as schizophrenics in our
present day world. Our present day world, which worships logic, is no longer
easily taken in by such people who with their instinctual intelligence actually
claim to have conversed with God and reached seemingly ridiculous conclusions
such as the world ending or economy collapsing. We dismiss them off as cynics
and mad people. Or we make them Gurus and worship them in mass. If present day
world were as closed and separated from each other into small chunks of
population, people like Osho and Krishnamurthy would have been Gods, not just
Gurus. But in the present day world , with so much communication and divergence
in thinking, it is difficult to convince everyone of the same thing. Therefore these life-style gurus and God-men
have as much opposition, as support.
Schizophrenia, therefore, can be viewed as a process of
detachment of consciousness and a phenomenon where instincts work readily and
enable a person to put the future into perspective in his or her area of
expertise. This detached consciousness may be labeled as human instinct, God
consciousness or simply mad delusions depending on how gracefully or
stressfully it is conveyed to the other people. Delusions of being God, or
communicating with God is therefore an age old phenomenon and medically, in the
current scenario it is diagnosed as an ailment. Drugs are administered to bring
down the euphoria of such delusions and actually to abdicate them from our
minds.
In simple Jesus language we may say—Let the first man cast a
stone(in this case, a look of contempt) who has not been a sinner (delusional)!
And if schizophrenia in a subclinical
form is a general phenomenon we need to
understand why some people are more creative with their delusions and how they
are inspired to act on it while others ignore them or keep it under wraps all
their lives. Had Jesus and his followers not been delusional about him being a
son of God, we may never had such a beautiful story to read and wonder!
In modern day, successful schizophrenics are brilliant share
market predictors or excellent scientists or modern day Gurus or insightful
writers or sincere activists.
As for God , the holy spirit still thinks of us as
entertainment and watches us dance through our lives in utmost seriousness
under the delusion of being God ourselves.
In all seriousness, I may declare, in my schizophrenic
wisdom that there is no Devil or that-- God is as much Devil as he or she is
God. It is we humans who decide what makes a devil Devil and a god God…the holy
spirit is as much Casper as he is a Poltergeist!!!!!!!!!!!!!
